Hollywood actor Ryan Phillippe has found a way to turn the paparazzi to his advantage – by using them to promote his favourite charities.
The Crash star now insists on wearing a t-shirt with the website address of various good causes plastered across the chest – so when the pictures appear in the media, the charity receives free publicity worldwide.
And Phillippe is proud that he has been able to use the constant attention of the media to benefit the charities.
He says, “These pictures go around the world and untold numbers of people see them. One organisation told me their web hits went up 2,000 per cent overnight after one such image was syndicated.”

CRASH star RYAN PHILLIPPE credits Hollywood legend PAUL NEWMAN with giving him the impetus to become an actor.
The 33-year-old was undecided about his career path until he watched Newman in 1967 film Cool Hand Luke.

He says, “I didn’t want a small life. I wanted to experience something different. I aspired to that even without knowing how to achieve it.

“I remember being fascinated and inspired by his (Newman’s) performance.”

Anti-Iraq war dramas may make their makers feel better, but they rarely make them much money. So you can understand the thinking behind keeping much mention of Iraq or war off the poster for Stop-Loss, and instead sticking the hunky young cast in vests, all smiles, atop a jeep.

But teens in search of a good time are in for a shock. Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt play soldiers returned to Texas after six months on the frontline, who start suffering from terrible flashbacks.

Phillippe remains the most sane, until he finds that his tour of duty has been involuntarily extended by a procedure known as stop-lossing. Phillippe is terrific, reprising his conflicted soldier routine from Flags of our Fathers, but Kimberly Peirce’s belated follow-up to Boys Don’t Cry (1999) suffers from a sluggish pace and a very bland love interest (Abbie Cornish).
